about
“The first time I visited Capertee Valley in early 2021 it was a beautiful sunny day, and I was awestruck by the incredible mountains and cliffs. The second time, almost a year later, many of the mountains were shrouded in cloud, I had car trouble and was caught in a storm as I drove cautiously back to Kandos where I was staying, through the driving wind and rain. This was a timely reminder that things aren’t always what they seem at first, and sometimes when you look closer you see a darker, more full truth. Sometimes things can’t be known. The Capertee Valley is undoubtedly a majestic, wondrous and precious place, but like so many parts of this big island we live on, its history has been darkened by post-colonial injustices that we should not forget."
